(4 December, 2009 - 12.30pm): The CEPU's protected action ballot of Australia Post members closed today at 10am (AEST).
The union's scrutineers advise that 11,253 ballot papers were returned.
By our early count that suggests that over 60% of our members voted in this ballot.
That's a tremendous result, showing how engaged and willing our members are to cast a vote in the biggest workplace ballot in the country.
Congratulations to all members who participated and took the time to have a say on their working rights and conditions.
And thanks to all those CEPU activists and members who were out there encouraging workmates to be a part of this vote. Great job!
Regardless of how you voted, it's fantastic that you all took the time to get involved - and to speak up.
Just to put these figures into perspective:
While the AEC has told us that we can expect the final result of the ballot on Monday 7 December, this is still such a significant return that the message cannot go un-noticed - members are voicing their views loud and clear on their enterprise agreement.
We will keep you informed of any developments.
