(29 May, 2009): The latest chapter in the saga that is Australia Post's Facility Nominated Doctor program was heard in the Industrial Relations Commission last week. It was quite a long hearing and the hearing is not complete.
While the matter is incomplete, several important issues have arisen. These will be the subject of a further hearing.
Australia Post has advised that it will be issuing new instructions to Managers. Post maintain that the FND issue is only about a few 'rogue' managers.
The union uses individual cases to highlight our complaints eg. a Launceston member who cut his hand, needing stitches, and denied compensation because he followed his own doctor’s advice instead of the FND.
Post just say the manager was wrong - it was an individual manager operating beyond their authority.
We say it is not the manager but the system.
HR was involved and would be wrong also. So would the Post compensation delegate.
We will report progress in this important matter.
