CEPU takes on management of powder issues that cost employees

(29 May, 2009): Last year, a CEPU member was involved in a white powder incident in the Mail Centre in northern NSW.

He was required to go to hospital for a number of hours, well beyond his end of shift.

Fortunately the incident was not a dangerous one and our member was not injured.

However he was not released from work for the following shift, and had less than a 10 hour break. Post offered him nothing.

The union has sought payment from Post for the extra hours and the penalties for the following shift. So far Post has refused.

We have sued Post in the Chief Industrial Magistrates Court where proceedings will commence on 24 June. We are seeking overtime payments for the additional hours at the hospital and for the following shift.
