(29 May, 2009): BURLEIGH Heads (Qld) community leaders have thrown their weight behind the fight to keep their Post Office in the central business district.
Community leaders hit the streets this week to alert the local community to Australia Posts plans to find a new location for the James Street Post Office.
There is nothing wrong with the James Street address and, if it was moved, it would hurt business in the area says the Gold Coast Central Chamber of Commerce and Burleigh Heads Action group.
The timing was also said to be very poor considering local traders are already suffering from the current global financial crisis.
CEPU Qld branch organiser Phil Hughes said Australia Post had not advised the union of any plans to relocate the James Street Post Office but now that the cat is out of the bag the union will be following the matter up.
