The CEPU WA Branch launched a statewide advertising campaign informing the community, of Australia Post’s new policy for PDO’s to start their shift half an hour later in the day in order to cut penalty rates – leading to a loss in take home pay.
The ad, titled “Two Posties. Same Workplace. Same Job. One Gets Paid Less.” has been released in community newspapers throughout Western Australia. It explains how this practice, which will see a 15% cut in new Posties wages, will also have long term impacts on superannuation and other benefits.
The ad campaign also highlights the use of Dedicated Outdoor Delivery Only (DODO) workers, where employees will not have to report to an Australia Post facility to collect mail or report when the deliveries have been completed
WA Branch Secretary Bryan Watkins speaking to the media on this issue said, “The local postie is one of the most trusted professions in Australia and Australia Post is abusing that trust to cut costs. The most dangerous part of a posties job is when they are out on the street making deliveries, now Australia Post wants new starters to do the most dangerous component of their jobs for less pay”.
