Members comment on pre-ride check
(4 May, 2009): We previously reported on a dispute with Australia Post over daily pre-ride motorcycle checks.
Since then we have had feedback from a number of members. Here are the comments of one member. We think this member makes some good points"
“Just some feedback on the pre-ride check that posties do. Over the past few months we have had it drummed in to our head about the pre-ride check to be strictly done. On some occasions managers threaten us with dismissal if we get anything wrong.Most posties do the bike check so they are safe on the road but it does not help morale and a happy work environment if we keep getting threatened with the sack!
Also not every postie is mechanical minded and we are not all motorcycle mechanics so there will always be some errors but the vast majority will be good. Management should help and encourage their employees not threaten them!
Also better training and periodic assessments would be a better way to go. It is good to see the article on protection for posties on pre-ride inspection. At least we have some protection”.
