Country Wide restructure threatens jobs

(7 June 2010) Telstra has informed the CEPU of a restructure in Telstra Country Wide (TCW) which may result in up to 43 redundancies.

In what it describes as part of its “increased focus on customer service” Telstra will create a Band 2 Local Customer Service Manager and at least one Band 3 (ii) Local Customer Service Specialist in each of its 26 geographic areas.

In addition there will be Regional Commercial Specialist and Regional Customer Service lead roles created in each off the five TCW regions and there will be four Regional Enterprise Service Lead roles.

Telstra says it does not expect any change to overall job numbers in TCW as a result of the restructure, but there may be redundancies if employees cannot be redeployed into the new positions.

TCW employees are not covered by the current Telstra Enterprise Agreement (TEA) or the Telstra Redundancy Agreement (TRA). The CEPU has raised this issue during talks with Telstra about the restructure. Telstra has agreed that any employee made redundant will receive the TRA entitlements.

Any CEPU members facing redundancy as a result of the restructure should contact their state branch for assistance.
