Bans on overtime, recalls and call backs - 10-11 January, 2009

(7 January, 2009): Members are advised that bans are to be placed on the performance of overtime, call backs and recalls this weekend.

The industrial action will commence at 12.01am on Saturday 10 January, 2009 and conclude at 11.59pm on Sunday 11 January, 2009.

While the action is designed to avoid possible impacts on the public, there may be instances where fault repair is delayed.

We regret impacts that might occur on business processes (eg banking/EFT) however we stress that members will be available to assist with clear emergency/life and limb calls.

CEPU officials should be contacted if there is any doubt about the nature of the call out and whether the work should be performed.

Some questions and answers:

My manager has asked me if I am taking part in industrial action - what should I say?

You are not required to inform your manager as to whether or not you will be participating in action.

My manager has asked if I am a union member - what should I say?

Your decision to join a union is a private matter - you are not required to inform managers whether you are or are not a union member.

Can I be dismissed or disciplined from taking action?

The law strictly prevents people from having their employment injured as a result of their participation in legitimate, protected industrial action.

If you are threatened with discipline or dismissal or other action, contact your union immediately.

I am not a union member - can I take part in this action?

Only CEPU members can participate in this action.  If you are not a member, email us at feedback@cepu.asn.au
