CEPU : Connecting our community

Campaign suspended, respecting Anzac Day

(24 April, 2009): Members are advised there will be NO industrial action tomorrow, to ensure that members are available to assist with any necessary restoration work that might be required on Anzac Day.

This is in line with our policy of ensuring services are available during special community events and public holidays - as well as reflecting a long standing policy of assistance on emergency/life and limb jobs.

  • Please bring this advice to the attention of your union colleagues.

The campaign will resume next week and will build on the action that we documented earlier this week - you can read more about that by clicking here.

  • You might also want to listen to an excellent interview carried out by CEPU NSW P&T Branch Assistant Secretary Steve Dodd criticising Telstra's continued push to slash jobs in regional NSW and Canberra - click here to listen to the interview

The CEPU believes Telstra's redundancy program is a direct long term threat to the telcos ability to participate in the future National Broadband Network project, drying up skills in an industry that will require up to 25,000 people as part of this massive government project - our concerns were made public here and reported in the media here
